Sirius - January 6th 2009

Here is my cat Sirius. No he is not named after the Sirius Black character in Harry Potter however this has become his nickname. I named him after Sirius the dog star, which follows Orion across the sky. It is also the brightest star in night sky (in winter for us). I didn't want to name him somthing typical for a black cat and I wanted to reflect my husband's enthusiasm for astonomy.

When Sirius is hungry he follows me around the island...when I stop he tries to reach out and touch me. This was a hard picture to capture with my limited knoweldge of my sony A100 and low light photography, so I grabbed my point & shoot because I don't get the blinkie lights from hell telling me "you idiot you can't take this picture without changing a setting". It's not as good of a picture as I would have liked and my subject was not willing to continue to pose with the "red eye" reduction light blinking in his face. In case you are wondering what that big collar is around his neck...we call that the house arrest collar because the little bugger has learned how to escape through the dog door and cats around the streets at night. I don't want to wake up to him flattened in the street so he sports this fashionable shock collar designed for cats. He hasn't escaped since and now runs as soon as he hears the warning beep. If only I could mimic that sound when he is being annoying!!
